Treehouse Wealth Book Club Recap: Exploring Libby DeLana’s “Do Walk”

First, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who spent the evening with us. There’s something special about gathering in one space, slowing down, and simply talking, and this conversation had that feeling from the very first story.

This time around, we read Libby DeLana’s “Do Walk: Navigate Earth, Mind and Body. Step by Step.” On the surface, it’s a book about walking. But as we quickly discovered, it’s really about how something we do every day, often without a second thought, can become a source of calm, connection, and a little everyday wonder. Here’s a look at what we talked about.

Why a Simple Walk Matters

What struck many of us is how approachable this book feels. DeLana isn’t asking anyone to train for a marathon or overhaul their life. She’s simply inviting us to step outside and pay attention. That invitation opened the door for everyone to share their own walking memories and rituals, and it became clear pretty quickly that this simple habit means a lot to a lot of people, for both body and mind.

A Walk Can Be a Gift to Yourself

A lot of our conversation came back to walking as self-care. For some of us, a walk is how we decompress after a long day. For others, it’s the one stretch of time when the phone goes quiet, and our thoughts finally have room to settle. Some folks walk on a regular schedule, and others just head out when they feel the pull. There’s no wrong way to do it. When we slow down and really notice what’s around us, a walk can start to feel a lot like meditation.

We also loved hearing how the same familiar route can feel brand new depending on the time of day, the season, or who’s walking beside you (or whether you’re enjoying it solo). And then there was the barefoot discussion. Kicking off your shoes, it turns out, can change the whole experience and give you a very real sense of connection to the ground beneath your feet. Just maybe keep an eye on where you’re stepping!

Better Together

Walking also has a wonderful way of bringing people closer. Whether it’s a stroll with a friend, a family walk after dinner, or a friendly chat with someone you just met on the trail, those shared steps can strengthen relationships and help us feel more rooted in our community.

We talked about how different a walk through the city feels compared to a walk in nature, and we agreed there’s room for both. That’s really the beauty of walking. It meets you wherever you are. A ten-minute loop around the block counts just as much as a full day on the trail, whether you’re looking for exercise, a little adventure, or a quiet moment to think.

Be Gentle With Yourself

We were also honest about how hard it can be to keep a walking routine going. Busy calendars, long workdays, and rainy weather all get in the way, and nearly everyone could relate. If that sounds familiar, you’re in good company. The encouraging news from our conversation is that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. A short walk, or a few quiet, intentional minutes wherever you are, can still give you so much of that same benefit. Every step counts.

What We’re Taking With Us

More than anything, “Do Walk” reminded us to look at an ordinary part of life with fresh eyes. It nudged us to think about mindfulness, nature, community, and how we care for ourselves, and to recognize that meaningful moments don’t have to be big or planned. Often, they wait just outside the front door.

Let’s Walk Together: October 3 in the Presidio

We can’t think of a better way to bring these ideas to life than to get outside together. On Saturday, October 3, we’ll meet in the San Francisco Presidio for a three-mile group walk. Whether you walk every day or it’s been a while, you’ll fit right in. Come as you are, bring a friend if you like, and enjoy some fresh air and good company with us. If you missed your invite with the details, you can email us at hello@treehousewealth.com.

Thank you again to everyone who made this conversation so warm and thoughtful. And if you haven’t joined one of our book club evenings yet, please consider this your personal invitation. We’d love to have you.

Stay tuned for our next book selection. Until then, happy reading, and happy walking!
